Our teammate, Karen Philleo, is going through a tough time, as her husband Byron is fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He has been in the hospital a long time receiving chemotherapy and preparing his body for a bone marrow transplant.

Karen has asked for her team to help lift their spirits by wearing orange (symbol for cancer support) for the race. The rowers will be wearing orange caps in the Men’s 8+, and the Mixed 8+. (Looks like we’ll have at least 2 for the W8+, since two of the men will do double duty in the mixed 8.).  If you’re in other boats and have your own orange cap, you’re invited to join the effort.

We have a big poster designed below that we are encouraging the racing crew to hold and take a picture on race day:) Barbara has a shared folder that we will be able to upload photos so Karen can share with Byron.

Karen surprised Byron with a smaller plaque at the hospital and here is his message to all those racing tomorrow...

Thank you so much for your thoughtful gift of a Racing For Byron plaque. Having rowed myself, I know the dedication and commitment that racing requires and I very much appreciate you folks dedicated a race or races to me.

Wish you the best in your races… and Go Capital Crew!

Byron Philleo
