Meet your fellow rower - Angie Griffiths

When did you join Capital Crew Masters, and what inspired you to give rowing a try?
I joined Capital Crew Masters in February 2026. When we moved here in April 2021, I immediately fell in love with the waterways here and dove into SUP and racing. When I was out on the board, I would frequently see the boats go by and knew I wanted to get back into this sport that I had truly only scratched the surface on with a brief season my first year of college more than 25 years ago. It took me nearly five years to get up the courage to join in, and I'm so glad I did!
What do you enjoy most about rowing?
I absolutely love that rowing is literally the only time of day that I can't think about anything else because I need all my concentration in the boat! I love competing and truly enjoy the team community so much. Water is my happy place.
What’s one memorable rowing moment you’ve had so far?
There have already been plenty, but I had the best time at NW Regionals this year! The team welcomed me and my wife, Sam, with open arms, and I had the opportunity to race alongside our local giants. It was a beautiful location and fun event.
When you’re not rowing, what do you enjoy doing?
I love dogs - we have two rescues and frequently participate in Bradshaw Animal Shelther's Barks and Recreation program to get shelter dogs out for the day. I also love coffee and Prosecco (not together), paddling, reading, and spending time with my family (two young man cubs, my wife, and my parents who just moved to the area [I'm an only child]). :)
What’s one thing your fellow rowers might be surprised to learn about you?
I grew up playing tennis competitively on the junior circuit. Seems I've jumped from one sports vice to a new one! :)
